JENISON FOOTBALL 2012 SLOGAN
GO THROUGH IT:
I3 - This year's theme comes from the notion that it is no longer good enough to "just do it."  We must go through our challenges and targets at full speed.  Life is mean to be lived at full speed - not just a bland attempt to make it through each day.  These three terms dictate our behavior for all endeavors we face every day.  With the proper mind-set - this football program can be extremely successful.  Our final frontier is the 6" space directly behind our eyes and between our ears.  The mind is the most powerful weapon we possess.  What we fill our mind with is the ultimate determinant of our success.

INTENSITY - Getting the most out of every opportunity in life.  Whether it is practice, class, lifting or games.  Give the most intense effort possible.

INTELLIGENCE - Football Intelligence (FBI).  Making great decisions based on preparation and anticipation.  This also applies to every day decision making - make great choices and bring honor to yourself, your family, your team and your community.

IMMEDIACY - Do it Now.  Don't wait for someone else to do it.  Don't wait for tomorrow.  Don't just do it - GO THROUGH IT!

I would like to take a moment to invite your football program to be involved in a tremendous community service project. Each month, hundreds and hundreds of soldiers return from the theatre of war with injuries from serving our country. Some of these injuries can be seen, many cannot. Our men and women of service have extended so much for us, we have created a way to say thank you. Last year, we dedicated our season to the WWP. Working with our biggest rivalry school, we were able to raise over $9000 last year. Repeating that would be a very difficult task with the economy the way it is. Instead, we have decided to create a nationwide project, and a goal to raise $100,000 to donate to the WWP. This organization helps wounded veterans from the time they finish surgery all the way through to their daily life out of the service. They need our help, they need our awareness, and they need our thanks. This is an easy project to sell to your community, it is a great way for the young men in your program to extend thanks to our soldiers who have given so much to us.

We raised over $1000 at our game just by passing buckets. Our JV and Freshmen players carried the buckets through the crowd at the varsity game, and our booster club parents counted it. I hope that you will take seize this opportunity to say thank you to our men and women of service. I have attached the WWP website, and all donations will go directly to them. As a football community, we have a great avenue to extend get involved.

Coaches - we are looking for 100 schools to donate $1000 to the Wounded Warrior Project. Please consider joining us.

Here are some great helpful ideas to get that done:

The Key Things to making a WWP dedication successful in a Football Program:

* Educate the coaches, administration and parents via email and links to the WWP website

* Have a local wounded veteran who has benefited from WWP come speak to the players at a team practice

* Consider Helmet Stickers and or Patches so WWP stays visible

* Create posters (the model already exists) to hang up in the community

* Let your local elected officials know what your are doing with WWP so their office can support you

* Pick a game that will be dedicated to WWP and have the Freshman/JV pass buckets for collection at half-time

* Have your announcer read a script (already written) re: WWP at each home game leading up to your dedication game

* Contact your local press/media for coverage

* Place a full page WWP dedication (using your poster above) in the Football Program

* Consider soliciting sponsorships from key businesses in your community (a sponsor form already exists)

If you do these 10 things you will be amazed at how the support for WWP and your Football Program will feed of itself without a lot of additional effort.

HOW IMPORTANT IS WHAT WE DO? READ THIS LETTER I RECEIVED RECENTLY.
RETYPED AND PRINTED WITH PERMISSION FROM THE FAMILY MENTIONED.

Dear Coach Sigler, Coaches, Football Players, Students and Faculty:

A while back, I read an article in the Advance about a football game between Jenison and Hudsonville. You joined forces with your rivals to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. Let me tell you from experience that your efforts are a blessing.

In September of 2006, my then 21 year old son left for Iraq with his Marine Unit. He was there only five weeks when the hum-vee he was driving was hit by an R.P.G. My son and all those in the hum-vee were critically wounded, and one Marine died instantly. When we got the call, we were told that our son may not make it. He was sent to Germany, stabilized, and two days later we met him at Bethesda Naval Hospital – just outside Washington DC. After a month of countless surgeries, we were told we could start to make arrangements for him to come home. Although we had packed a bag for ourselves, we had nothing for our son to come home in. God Bless the Wounded Warrior Project. he and all the injured Marines received a duffle bag with everything they needed. T-shirts, sweats, sweatshirts, socks, underwear, toothbrush and tooth-paste, deoderant, tennis shoes, a CD player with CD's and earphones, DVD's, etc. It was such a blessing and all the Marines and their families were so grateful.

My son is doing great. He recently graduated from college, and just passed his medical evaluation with the Marine corps. He hopes to return to his Unit soon. Three years later, he still wears the WWP T-shirt and sweats giving us a constant reminder of the kindness shown be people like you.

Thank you so much for all your hard work and determination to support such a worthy cause. God Bless you for supporting the troops in such a big way. We will be forever grateful to all of you. With heartfelt thanks.
